• In 2012, 28 EU nations plus Norway and Switzerland generated 9.56 million tons of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
• Of the total WEEE, EU Member States reported 3.3 million tons as collected and recycled.
• 0.75 million tons were estimated to end up in waste bins.
• 2.2 million tons of WEEE (mainly steel consumer appliances collected and processed under non-compliant conditions) was mixed with metal scrap.
• 3.2 million tons of WEEE remains undocumented. Of that, 1.7 million tons are estimated to be processed within the EU and 1.5 million tons exported. Of the 1.7 million tons estimated within the EU, 0.95 million tons were additional non-compliant processing, while 0.75 million tons were scavenged and stolen parts.
